I assume you mean the DVD burner format? Do you niggardly is it a DVD+R or DVD-R? If that is what you close-fisted, your laptop is new ample that odds are it will do both formats. Or you could check the documentation that come with your appliance, or check Gateway's website for your model.

Most DVD R/Ws are both now a days, and can diary in both modes.
Most are both and plentiful both CD and DVD, but, you know better than me nearly that.
