Is near a scanner (for macintosh computers) that can run on a battery-operated (like a laptop does)?

Answer:

Many scanners capture their power from the USB port. They do not have battery and do not plug into the wall. Just read the specifications on the box. I have a Cannon N1220U that runs that instrument but it is many years infirm.
